For this special edition of #FilmandFriends, we are pleased to host nyc-based filmmaker and friend Russell Avery to screen and discuss his recent and evolving work on Tibetan Stories.
Tibetan Stories is a short documentary series exploring the lives and values of contemporary Tibetan refugees. Particularly in the western imagination, the practice of Tibetan Buddhism and Tibetan culture are regularly romanticized and objectified making an understanding of the perspectives and daily rituals of ordinary Tibetans difficult to acquire. Each story in the series is both a morality tale, based on the principles of Buddhist philosophy, and a time-capsule regarding this unique community at this moment in their history.
